The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to understand and explain the   preparation and use of sociological research in   corporate and social practice. The course will help students understand, learn and then use   basic approaches to sociological research. The knowledge and skills will be utilized as part of the application processing undergraduate work and implementation of research investigations VSFS.
Learning outcomes
Basic theoretical knowledge, orientation in problems and context of monitored topics. At the same time, the practical skills and skills of applying the acquired knowledge in a real environment of professional activities. The learning outcomes are the support and development of the profile of the educated practitioner
Syllabus
  • 1. Research project - its basic phase: a general scheme for the preparation of a research project (research project), research focus, research questions and research issues, hypotheses and their role. 2. Role of theory and work with literature: definition of the topic, where and how to search literature, preparation of a literature review, inventory of concepts, formulation of questions with respect to existing knowledge. 3. The so-called "Desk research" - where to search for data sources, role routine statistics, other research, archives of sociological research data. 4. From problem to hypothesis. Research hypotheses: from research questions to hypotheses, types of hypotheses, rules of their formulation, preparation of hypotheses for own research. 5. Real Estate Reduction for Research Purposes and Empirical Research Logic: Open vs. closed systems, types of relationships and possible distortion, experiment in sociology. 6. Basic stages of quantitative / qualitative empirical research: deductive and inductive approach to research work. 7. Types of sampling and sample size determination, consequences of choice of type and size of selection on the next stage of research, and analysis of data from the conducted research, determination of the selection and its size with regard to representativeness. 8. Design a questionnaire for self-study, interviews. Questionnaire and its structure. 9. Basic classification of socio-demographic variables. 10. Preparation of data file in Excel and SPSS, primary data control. 11. Basic information on the codebook, variable distribution (SPSS), basic relationship identification, validity, reliability, and scale. 12. Basic data processing, plan of analyzes aimed at hypothesis testing.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
Assessment methods
This course is finished by coure credit and exam. Course credit: preparing of project of sociological research, including the theoretical, methodological and organisational parts. Exam: Written exam/test based on knowledge acquired in the lectures and in the readings. The condition for the test log is to obtain credit.
