Course objectives
Criminologists study crime, trying to understand the causes and conditions of crime. They examine the way offenders are dealt with, not only by law enforcement agencies, but also by other entities or institutions involved in criminal proceedings. Studying criminology and law together provides a very effective approach to solving crime. The student will gain a detailed insight into the understanding of the criminal justice system, will analyze connections with criminal behavior from an individual point of view, but also from a societal point of view, with a focus on political and social aspects of criminology. As part of this course, students will also acquire basic relevant concepts related to criminology, crime, the perpetrator, damage to the victim, sanctioning of the perpetrator, criminalization and criminal justice in contemporary society. Added to this is the knowledge of some practical examples, suitable for demonstrating the possibilities of crime prevention, even in relation to specific selected types of crime.
