No prerequisites. However, the course assumes knowledge of the general (institutional) part of EU law.

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Content of the subject covers legal fundaments of the EU internal market and related policies (consumer protection, competition policy, Common commercial policy). The topisc presented are complemented by the fundaments of the area of freedom, security and justice. The overall aim is to aquire practical knowledge of relationships and procedures in the framework of the implementation of the common policies of the EU Member States and their incorporation into national law
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course the student will be able to: -identify and summarize important features of the transnational regulation of the EU internal market -identify and describe the use of a secondary EU law in the development of the legal framework of the EU internal market -compare and highlight the differences of the level of the legislation of EU law in different areas the internal market (the four freedoms of the market) -apply the legal procedures for the decision of EU Courts in practical examples of a dispute between the EU Commission and Member States in issued of competition law (State Aid, permited exemptions, enforceability); -analyse the conditions for legal enforceability of the Common Commercial Policy in individual Member States - Analyse the fields of cooperation between Member States in the area of freedom, security and justice
Syllabus
  • 1.EU and its law , sources of EU law, fundamentals of th EU institutional structure 2.Economic integration as the core of the EU - internal market and its components. Sources of the internal market law; EU case-law and its importance 3.Internal Market I- free movement of goods, free movement of persons, freedom of establishment 4.Internal Market II-free movement of services, free movement of capital and payments 5.Competition policy of the EU and its legal framework 6.Competition rules for undertakings (cartels, abuse of dominance, merger control) and for States (public aid, State monopolies and public enterprises) 7.Procedure before the Commission in matters of competition, 8.Procedure before the EU Courts in matters of competition, 9.Consumer protection in the EU law – public law (health and safety protection) and private law (interests of consumers ) 10.EU companies and harmonisation of the national company law in Member States 11. EU common commercial policy (CCP) 12.EU area of freedom, security and justice

Assessment methods
The course ends with a credit test consisting of 20 closed questions (multiple-choice). The criterion for the award of credit is a score of 55%.
