Course objectives
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the subject Theory and Policy of Insurance is to acquire the basic concepts of the segment "Insurance and Insurance", basic theoretical knowledge applicable in the further development of the theory and professional practice of graduates. At the end of the course students should have theoretical background of insurance, methodology and concrete financial techniques of social and private insurance in the world and in the Czech Republic. They will be able to understand the roots of modern insurance and will be able to explain insurance theory as a basis for applications of private and public systems including information asymmetry theory. In this context, he will be able to analyze and assess risks in private insurance, both on the supply and demand side. At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain the development trends in insurance markets and acquire basic knowledge for further education in the field.
Learning outcomes
The subject Theory and Policy of Insurance is understood comprehensively in the context of basic theoretical principles of insurance to practice and used methods and procedures derived from insurance risk modeling to new theoretical procedures derived from comprehensive risk management of insurance companies in connection with harmonization of the European Union Solvency II into the conditions of the legal framework of the Czech Republic. It acquaints students with the basic processes applied within the relationship of supply and demand with regard to information asymmetry in insurance markets. In relation to the theoretical fundamentals of insurance, specific financial techniques of insurance as a service, including the philosophy of consumer protection, are analyzed and explained.

Teaching methods
Teaching takes the form of lectures using power-point presentation. Minimum compulsory participation in controlled group consultations in the combined form of study is 50%. Students who do not meet the mandatory extent of participation can be assigned additional study duties (to the extent that will enable them to demonstrate the learning outcomes and competences necessary for successful completion of the course).
Assessment methods
In the course students have to elaborate a compulsory seminar work in the range of 5 to 8 pages and submit it to the teacher before the exam. The course is completed by a written test (also possible through Odpovědník), or an oral exam (possible via Skype).
