The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The objective of the course is to introduce the basic methodological approaches to the regional analysis and their use in regional and municipal planning processes. Another objectice of the course is to present the role of GIS in geoinformatical technologies and regional planning approaches.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able after the course orientate himself in basic analytical methods and approaches used actually in regional development management and regional policy. Student will be able to orientate himself in the area of development factors of local and regional development.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the regional analysis study: basic terminology. 2. Objectives and structure of regional analysis. 3. Approaches to the regional analysis, types of regional analysis. 4. Data and indicators, data sources. 5. Evaluation of regional processes: methods and models. 6. SWOT analysis: objectives and practise. 7. Evaluation of the territory, regional disparities. Comparation of regions. 8. Analysis at the municipal level, munipilaties profiles. 9. Methods and attitudes used in analysis at local level. 10. Prognostics, different prognostics methods. 11. GIS and its use in regional planning. 12. GIS datas.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit. A specific written study id part-time study and presentation in full time study is required to award the credit.
