Publikace nabízí odborný pohled na sociální politiku, tedy disciplínu, která se dotýká důležitých sfér lidského života a jejíž nastavení podstatně ovlivňuje sociálně-ekonomický rozvoj. Zabývá se jak teoretickými aspekty sociální politiky, tak i dílčími politikami ovlivňujícími fungování významných sociálních systémů a jejich prvků (zejména sociálního zabezpečení, trhu práce, školství, zdravotnictví, rodiny a bydlení). Představuje sociální politiku jako způsob pochopení reality a zacházení s ní, který integruje a rozvíjí poznatky z řady souvisejících oborů a současně definuje robustní teoretický rámec pro sociálněpolitická opatření. Kniha zohledňuje hlavní vývojové tendence v české sociální politice a obsahuje relevantní teoretické přístupy podané přehlednou a srozumitelnou formou. Umožňuje tak vysvětlit a pochopit řadu problémů, které vidíme kolem sebe a jsou často předmětem diskusí (např. důchodová reforma, sociální vyloučení, efektivita sociálních dávek, úroveň porodnosti, dostupnost zdravotní péče).

The book offers an expert perspective on social policy, a discipline that touches important spheres of human life and whose settings significantly affect socio-economic development. It addresses both the theoretical aspects of social policy and the sub-policies that affect the functioning of important social systems and their elements (in particular, social security, the labour market, education, health, family and housing). It presents social policy as a way of understanding and dealing with reality that integrates and develops knowledge from a range of related disciplines, while defining a robust theoretical framework for social policy action. The book takes into account the main developments in Czech social policy and contains relevant theoretical approaches presented in a clear and comprehensible form. In this way, it enables us to explain and understand many of the problems we see around us and which are often the subject of debate (e.g. pension reform, social exclusion, the effectiveness of social benefits, fertility levels, access to health care).
