Operative search activities are the procedure of authorized members of the security forces carried out mainly in a secret manner with specific purposes laid down by law, while respecting constitutional limits. In the presented article, a basic excursion into this area is carried out, explaining the importance and necessity of this legitimate activity for preserving the foundations of a democratic, rule of law. The authors state the current state of usability of the information found by operational activities for the needs of specific criminal proceedings. The article is based on research activities within a partial research task conducted at the Police Academy of the Czech Republic, in Prague, on the topic "Current Issues of Forensic Tactics and Methodology", within the research direction of the Faculty of Security Law under the title "Needs and Forms of Strengthening the Competencies and Cooperation of Security Entities".
