Strategic management represents the system-managed process responding to changes of both internal and external environments.Its principal tasks are the determination of the long - term focus of the company or the local government unit, their planning, sources allocating, organizing and management,harmonization of all components subject organization system. Nowadays a growing number of local governments in European countries define their strategies based on the strategic management principles implementation.

Strategické řízení představuje proces řízení odpovídající změnám ve vnitřním a vnějším prostředí. Jeho hlavní úkoly jsou: určení dlouhodobého zaměření firmy nebo jednotky místní správy, jejich plánování, přidělování zdrojů, organizování a řízení, harmonizace všech systémů organizačních složek. V současné době rostoucí počet územních samospráv definuje své strategie založené na zásadách strategického managementu.
