Until this year, no comprehensive treatise on vampirism was published in the German language, and what came out failed to free itself failed to get rid of the attractiveness associated with "Count Dracula", as was the case for example France, United States, Italy, and last but not least Czech Republic. After publishing the elegant book Der Vampir: Ein Europäischer Mythos Thomas M. Bohn, a professor of the history of Eastern Europe at the University of Gießen, filled a gap in the German scientific space, which failed to fill either two leading Heidelberg researchers, Ditte and Giovanni Bandini, because their study on vampirism abounds of so called postmodern vampires. Der Vampir Thomas M. Bohn can be considered as useful book for understanding the reception of vampire myth in Silesia and later in the Prussian environment. But if we wanted to accept some general conclusions of the work, we would create more confusion in a field already overwhelmed by fantastic stories lacking any relationship with scientific research and the hermeneutics of vampirism.
