Je známo, že během svátků zvaných Thesmoforie, athénské ženy evokovaly Iambinin žert. To jest, zvedly si sukně a vyprovokovaly smích. Rituál zvaný anasyrma má dávné kořeny, starší než Themosforie a dá se vystopovat až k balkánskému neolitu. Původní apotropaický význam anasyrmy, se časem vytratil z drtivé většiny západního světa, ale třeba v Nigerii svůj význam stále má. Ovšem i zde byl podroben jistým transformacím. V západním světě se každopádně daly rozpoznat určitě relikty anasyrmy alespoň do období druhé světové války, a dokonce tu máme případ ukrajinské feministické skupiny femen, která stále organizuje své akce na základě anasyrmy. Nicméně ukazování genitálií zažívá určitou formu renesance, ale v takovém případě se spíše jedná o tzv. flashing, než o relikt starého rituálu anasyrmy.

The ritual called anasyrma has ancient roots, older than Themosphere, and can be traced back to the Balkan Neolithic. The original apotropaic meaning of the anasyrma, disappeared from the vast majority of the Western world over time, but in Nigeria it still has its meaning. However, it has also undergone certain transformations here. In any case, in the Western world, certain relics of the anasyrma could be recognized at least until the Second World War, and even here we have the case of the Ukrainian feminist group "femen", which is still organizing its actions on the basis of the anasyrma. However, showing genitalia is experiencing some form of renaissance, but in this case, this is rather expression of so called flashing than the relic of the ancient ritual of anasyrma.
