Je známo, že během svátků zvaných Thesmoforie, athénské ženy evokovaly Iambinin žert. To jest, zvedly si sukně a vyprovokovaly smích. Rituál zvaný anasyrma má dávné kořeny, starší než Themosforie a dá se vystopovat až k balkánskému neolitu. Původní apotropaický význam anasyrmy, se časem vytratil z drtivé většiny západního světa, ale třeba v Nigerii svůj význam stále má. Ovšem i zde byl podroben jistým transformacím. V západním světě se každopádně daly rozpoznat určitě relikty anasyrmy alespoň do období druhé světové války, a dokonce tu máme případ ukrajinské feministické skupiny femen, která stále organizuje své akce na základě anasyrmy. Nicméně ukazování genitálií zažívá určitou formu renesance, ale v takovém případě se spíše jedná o tzv. flashing, než o relikt starého rituálu anasyrmy.
