Therefore the expression entrepreneurship, entrepreneur and family enterprise occur far in the past. These follow the history of trades that had been developed by generations of heirs by passing their experience to their offspring. The same applies in the Czech Republic, where the tradition was however brutally interrupted by the communist regime. The recent history of family enterprises begins in 1989. Since then the family enterprises or farms have been emerging from ashes, driven by enthusiasm of their founders attempting to make true their dreams and ideas and employ themselves and their families on “their own”. Nowadays, in 2018, approximately 29 years have lapsed from the first established family enterprises and farms and the first change of generations may be witnessed in the Czech Republic. However, many families go through the change intuitively, with no guidelines or methodology describing individual steps of strategic management of successorship, the available research materials well behind the practise. Since the issues is highly contemporary, the Association of Small and Medium-Size Enterprises of the Czech Republic proclaimed 2018 the Year of Family Business. The aim is to initiate legislative definition of family enterprises in the revised Czech Civil Code, create an atmosphere supporting of the drive for entrepreneurship and entice the young generation to take over the enterprises. The University of Finance and Administration is a member of a university platform participating in drafting education texts and examples of good practice. The platform analyses the course of successorship in the family enterprises and conflicts accompanying it. It may be assumed the specific features of the family enterprise management are based on practically inseparable borderline between the family business and the family itself and their mutually interdependent and interconnected relationships. Conflicts emerge particularly from differing expectations of the successors and founders, from their reluctance to suppress their egos, from different understanding of expressions like growth and success, from the different approach of the generation Y to jobs and perceptions of values. It will be proved that the analysed family enterprises are willing to meet, exchange their experience, participate in drafting methodology guidelines to manage conflicts and boost the growth of their business under the management of the younger generation.
