Současný svět je velmi rozmanitým, až složitým místem pro život. Naše společnost je založena na spolupráci lidí. Je to nutné pravidlo pro uspokojení našich potřeb v soukromém životě i naplnění cílů všech typů organizací. Každá společnost, obecně lidská, i společnost typu ekonomické organizace, přiděluje svým členům určitou společenskou roli a pozici. Čím je cíl organizace jednoznačněji zaměřen, tím přesněji jsou rozděleny jednotlivé role jednotlivých členů. Každý vedoucí pracovník se ve své práci každodenně setkává s potřebou usměrňovat, řídit, vést, chování pracovníků tak, aby prostřednictvím jejich práce byl naplněn cíl organizace.
