Course objectives
The subject focuses in introduction acquaintance of students with questions connected with information systems (IS), especially with their role in management of corporations.
Such information systems are called usually Management Information Systems (MIS).
Acquaintance with qestions of MIS is not only at user level, but it deals also at "inner" structure of IS, or MIS respectively, from the point of wiev of specialist in informatics as their conceptor, creator and operator.
After passing this subject would students be able
- to describe architectures of IS: tired, functional, vertical, modular (ERP).
- to formulate the information requirements on MIS independently
- to explain and describe principles of designing of MIS using structured life cycle methodology
- to describe elementary techniques and tools used in the process of designing MIS and to explain their applicability in concrete siuations during the process of design
Syllabus
  • 1. MIS and their role in management of corporations.
  • Architectures of MIS - 1st part: Architecture tired, architecture vertical (hierarchical).
  • 2. Architectures of MIS - 2nd part: Architecture functional, architecture modular (ERP).
  • 3. Formulation of information requirements on MIS.
  • Design of MIS - 1st part: Methodologies, methods, techniques and tools used in the process of designing of IS.
  • Structured life cycle methodology (LCM) - introduction.
  • 4. Design of MIS - 2nd part: Structured LCM - continued.
  • 5. Elementary techniques and tools used in the process of design of MIS - 1st part:
  • Structured text.
  • Flow Charts.
  • 6. Elementary techniques and tools used in the process of design of MIS - 2nd part:
  • Data Flow Diagrams (DFD)
  • E-R Diagrams.

Teaching methods
Lectures (one two-hours lecture once per two weeks, this is 6 lectures per semester).
Lectures are followed by excercises (one two-hours excercise once per two weeks, this is 6 excercises per semester).
Managed consultations and tutorials in part-time study.
Minimal required participation is 75% on seminars in full-time study and 50% on tutorials in part-time study.
Students with lower than required participation have to fulfill additional study duties.
Assessment methods
The subject ends with assessment and examination.
Examination consists of written test.
Student is succesfull if his test is assesed by minimal 65 points of maximum 100.
