Prerequisites
This course assumes that the student has sufficient knowledge of writing at least a bachelor's thesis. Adequate knowledge of working with MS WORD and EXCEL and partially with PowerPoint is expected. The student's experience with searching for and processing professional text is also assumed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The student is able to prepare a Diploma Thesis (DT) Assignment and DP Intent and save them in the Odevzdavarna according to the instructor's instructions. At the end of the course, the student will be able to independently prepare a high-quality diploma thesis in the follow-up subject Diploma Project 1. During the course, students will be guided in a seminar format to adhere to the basic rules and principles of writing a diploma thesis and also to the high quality of creative scientific and professional work.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to work out the Assignment of the Diploma thesis (DT) and the Intension to DT. The student will be ready by the end of the course to work out the DT within a subsequent subject Diploma Project 1.
Syllabus
  • 1. The meaning and structure of the DT
  • 2. The importance of choosing a topic and the basic rules for writing a thesis, the thesis assignment
  • 2. Principles and procedure for writing a thesis proposal
  • 3. Finding professional sources and other information sources, studying and processing scientific and professional texts
  • 4. Methods of scientific and professional work, writing a thesis, formal form of the thesis
  • 5. Forms of the thesis, ethics of creative work with an emphasis on the use of references and citations in the thesis
  • 6. Appendices and other additional information in the thesis
  • 7. Conclusion of the thesis, completion of the thesis, entering the thesis into the IS
  • 8. Evaluation of the DT and defense of the DR including presentation.

Teaching methods
Seminars in full-time study, guided group consultations in part-time study. The minimum mandatory attendance for seminars in full-time study is 75%, for guided group consultations in part-time study is 50%.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit based on handing in the Assignment of the DT and the basic text of the Intension. The management of the faculty can set further conditions for awarding a credit. The credit can be awarded exclusively by the teacher of the subject, not by the DT supervisor.
