Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain functional design of operating systems; critically asses architecture and functionality of operating systems.

  • 4 Methods for synchronization of processes
  • 5 Scheduling algorithms - Mutual exclusion, resource sharing, data sharing - Cooperation Process
  • 6 Sharing system resources - Classification system resources
  • 7 Memory administration - virtual Memory
  • 8 Memory administration - Memory allocation and memory allocation algorithms
  • 9 Memory administration - memory fragmentation
  • 10 Processes, Process synchronization

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study. Lectures with an advance reading assignments and intensice class discussion.
Assessment methods
Written exam, 60% of correct answers.
