Prerequisites
The course builds on the subject of Application Software from 1st year. Assumed knowledge of techniques and tools work programs MS Word 2010 and MS PowerPoint 2010 at the level of the course curriculum.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- apply advanced tools used in MS Word to manage long documents, the teamwork and protecting documents.
- apply tools in MS Excel to create, edit and manage tables.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
- edit large documents in MS Word 2010;
- create a form, work with templates in MS Word 2010;
- enter any data into tables, calculate using formulas in MS Excel 2010;
- format tables in MS Excel 2010;
- use analysis tools, create Pivot table in MS Excel 2010;
- work with mail merge in MS Word 2010;
Syllabus
  • 1. MS Word – editing large documents - dividing the document into sections (varied page setups, varied headers and footers)
  • 2. MS Word – creating a form, inserting various types of form fields, document protection.
  • 3. MS Word – working with templates, downloading a template from the MS Office website, creating a custom template. Document revision, sharing documents with other users, addition of comments, document comparison
  • 4. MS Excel – entering any data into tables, calculations using formulas, numeric formats, more complex calculations in tables using various types of references
  • 5. MS Excel - formal editing tables (manual formatting or use Gallery), work sheets (insert, delete, rename, copy), work with rows and columns (insert, delete).
  • 6. MS Excel – application of more complex functions (financial, text, etc.), nesting functions within functions.
  • 7. MS Excel – conditional formatting. More complex chart editing (secondary axis, adding data, data direction change,...). Modifications and
  • 8. MS Excel - working with worksheets. Calculations with references to other worksheets or workbooks. Printing of larger tables, header and footer, repeating a table heading on subsequent pages, print area, size adjustment before printing.
  • 9. MS Excel – analysis tools (Goal Seek), databases – sorting, filtering, subtotals
  • 10. MS Excel – databases - PivotTable
  • 11. MS Word – mail merge
  • 12. Credit exercise – practical exercise in MS Word and MS Excel.

Teaching methods
Full-time study - managed seminares. Required participation - 75%. At the end of the semester students who do not attend mandatory number of seminars may be given additional study requirements that will demonstrate academic achievement and acquired competencies necessary for successful completion of the course. Combined Studies - distance form. Students have compulsory one directed group consultation. The possible absence can be compensate by personal consultation with a tutor.
Assessment methods
Course completion: Full-time studies: credit. Students edit MS Word document according to instructions and create and modify tables in MS Excel. Combined studies: students work out separately four POT’s and write the same full time final test as full-time students. The results of students must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the tools of both programs.
