Course objectives
After completing the course the student will acquire basic knowledge and skills in management practices, which are a prerequisite for the performance of senior management and economic functions. Scope of Managerial Economics is based on the basic application of managerial economics in business, management and decision-making processes. Students will revise and linking knowledge of business economics, accounting, macro-and microeconomics. Students acquire basic knowledge about the categories of managerial economics, functions and coherence of activities within the enterprise architecture.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to
understand basic accounting terms including financial statements
evaluate performace of the company based on the widely used financial analysis methods
distiguish among different types of financing - stocks, bonds, loans, leases
propose optimal capital structure of the company
understand the basic working capital management techniques
understand time value of money concept
evaluate investment project based on capital budgeting methods
propose appropriate hedging techniques using different types of derivates
value the corporation
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to financial management, financial statements and their role in decision making process.
  • 2. Balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement. Concept and basic terms for financial statement users.
  • 3. Financial statement analysis - its role in decision making process, users, basic concept.
  • 4. Financial statement analysis - methods and their usage in daily management life.
  • 5. Time value of money.
  • 6. External funds - loans and bonds.
  • 7. Internal funds - stocks, optimizing the capital structure of the company.
  • 8. Derivates, financial markets.
  • 9. Capital budgeting methods, cost of capital.
  • 10.Corporate valuation and management of business value.
  • 11.Foreign currency transactions.

Teaching methods
PS: (full time students) 2 hours per week of lectures and 1 hour per week of seminars (2/1) KS: (part time students) 5 seminars (90 min each). Lectures for present studies will be split into theoretical as well as practical part. Theoretical parts will be always explained on practical examples. Even more interactive form of study is applied in KS (part time study). Students in full time study program should attend 75% of seminars as a minimum. Students in part time study program should attend 50% of seminars as a minimum.
Assessment methods
Assignment- individual or group project and presentation (can be online - will be specified) - topic will be specified in the teaching materials (20 points assignment, 10 points presentation), in class activity (different activities during semester, will be specified by instructor, 20 points), to obtain credit at least 70% must be reached i.e. 35 points Exam: Written open book test consisting of multiple choice questions, short essays and calculations (50 points) can be online, form will be specified. To pass at least 60% of total is required.
