- Course objectives
- The student is able to work out the Assignment of the Diploma thesis (DT) and the Introduction to DT. The student will be ready by the end of the course to work out the DT within a subsequent subject Diploma Project 1. During the course in seminar classes students will be taught to respect author’s ethics as well as the quality of scientific and academic work.
- Learning outcomes
- After successfully completing the course, the student:
• The student will be able to develop a Diploma Thesis (DP) Assignment and DP Intent, i.e. correctly formulate the DP hypothesis, develop a strategy and determine the DP processing methods that will be adequate to achieve the set goal.
• At the end of the course, the student will be ready to develop a diploma thesis in the follow-up subject Diploma Project 1 and complete the DP in the follow-up subject Diploma Project 2.
• Students will acquire the skills necessary to adhere to authorial ethics and to be able to produce high-quality creative professional work. - Syllabus
- 1. The meaning of the thesis, requirements for the professional level of the thesis, the general structure of the thesis (methodological requirements of the VŠFS)
- 2. The procedure for selecting the thesis topic, processing the thesis assignment, principles and procedure for developing the thesis plan
- 3. Information sources and resources, methods of professional work, creation of the thesis text
- 4. Tools of student professional work, formal form of the thesis
- 5. Illustrations in the thesis, structure of the thesis form
- 6. Ethics of creative work and issues of using AI, references and citations of professional sources, Conclusion of the thesis, completion of the thesis and preparation of the thesis defense (thesis presentation)

- Teaching methods
- Seminars in full-time study, tutorials in part-time study. Compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study , compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
Lectures. Introducing students to the requirements for the professional level and structure of the thesis, including setting a measurable goal, research questions or hypotheses. Explanation of the rules for choosing a topic, creating a thesis assignment and thesis intention. Presentation of methods of professional work, ways of working with sources and citation standards. Examples of good practice and the most common mistakes when writing final theses. Practical training in creating a thesis assignment and thesis intention with individual feedback from the teacher. Development of a research of professional sources, creation of a list of literature according to ČSN ISO 690:2022. Examples of text structuring, work with formal editing (citations, tables, graphs, appendices). Discussion and reflection on ethical aspects (plagiarism, correct citation, copyright).
Modern methods (supported by technology) – motivation, higher interactivity
• Use of electronic tools (IS VŠFS, MS Teams, Citace.com,) for preparation of materials and communication.
• Active work with examples of successful diploma theses – critical analysis and discussion.
• Gradual building of the student's basic portfolio (assignment, intention, research, list of literature) as preparation for the follow-up subjects Diploma Project 1 and 2. - Assessment methods
- Processing of the Diploma Thesis Assignment and the Diploma Thesis Intent. The DP assignment is approved in is.vsfs by the DP leader and subsequently by the head of the department, then the student prints out the DP Assignment and uploads it to the Course Submission Office. The student uploads the DP Intent to the Course Submission Office with the approval signature of the DP leader.
Seminars in the full-time form of study, guided group consultations in the combined form of study. The minimum mandatory attendance at seminars in the full-time form of study is 75%, at guided group consultations in the combined form of study 50%. If contact teaching and consultations in the personal presence of the student in the full-time and combined forms of study are prevented, the teaching is replaced by a distance learning form of study. - Language of instruction
