Knowledge of the political history on Secondary school level.

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of this propedeutic course is to explain the evolution of law on the territory of Czech state and its logic. On the basis of lecturs student understands the relation between the functioning of law and social conditions. He is knowledgeable in the progressive development of nowadays legal institutes as well. He is well informed about the basic outline of the organisation of institutions of public power in particular historical periods. During enforcing the positive law he is able to apply the principle of historical interpretation.
Syllabus
  • 1. Formation of the Czech state and its organisation in the middle ages.
  • 2. Early modern administration and justice.
  • 3. Austrian and Austro-Hungarian monarchy and its development.
  • 4. The Czechoslovac state - origins and changes in its organisation till today.
  • 5. The beginning of law and its shep in early and high feudal period.
  • 6. The law in estates´ state and its changes after the battle on the White Mountain.
  • 7. The evolution of the constitutional law in the years 1848-1939.
  • 8. Austrian civil code (ABGB); its content and further changes.
  • 9. The evolution of the criminal law from the 18. till 20. century.
  • 10. Commercial and trade law in Austria and Czchoslovakia.
  • 11. The Presidential Decrees and their place in Czech legal system.
  • 12. Characteristic features and institutes of law in the years 1948-1989.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit and an exam. Credit is a written test, verifying knowledge of basic factography. It consists form questions, which are partly open, partly with offered answers (the only one is correct). The list of topics to the verbal exam will be published on the web (materials to study).
