The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
After passing the course student will be able to understand and explain -structure of the primary and secondary EU law - legal framework of the internal market - core restrictions for undertakings in competitive environment - core restrictions for States in administrating the national economy - principles and core rules of consumer protection in the EU
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course the student will be able to: -identify and summarize important features of the transnational regulation of the EU internal market -identify and describe the use of a secondary EU law in the development of the legal framework of the EU internal market -compare and highlight the differences of the level of the legislation of EU law in different areas the internal market (the four freedoms of the market) -apply the legal procedures for the decision of EU Courts in practical examples of a dispute between the EU Commission and Member States (types of lawsuits, legal effects, enforceability); -analyse the conditions for legal enforceability of the decision of the Court of the EU for each categories (types) of judicial proceedings by TFEU - -analyse the conditions for legal enforceability of the Common Commercial Policy in individual Member States
Syllabus
  • 1. Economic integration, its form and development stages 2. internal market, origin and components. Sources of law and the case-law 3. free movement of goods, free movement of persons, right to establish 4. free movement of services, free movement of capital and payments 5. competition policy of the EU and its legal framework 6. competition rules for undertakings (cartels, abuse of Dominance, merger control) 7. competition rules for States (public aid, State monopolies and Public enterprises) 8. procedure before the Commission and ECJ in matters of Competition, 9. EU common commercial policy 10. consumer protection in the EU law – public law 11. consumer protection in the EU law – private law (interests of consumers ) 12. intellectual property protection in EU

Assessment methods
Closing by passing of written test with closed questions (alternatives a, b, c to be chosen). 25 questions, 13 thereof have to be answered correctly. During the exam students may use printed texts of EU establishing treaties (TEU, TFEU)
