Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course. Students starting this course should have basic working skills in these applications (at least in the 2003 versions) and basic user-level skills in working with a PC, in computer network and in MS Windows.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The objective of the course is to enhance students’ knowledge in the basic user applications under the MS Windows operating system and, using practical examples, to test the usual working techniques in MS Word and MS PowerPoint in their 2010 versions.
After absolving the course students will be able to use these applications on advanced user level.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
- orientate in the working environment of the MS Office 2010 applications;
- manage basic techniques of work, direct formatting, formatting of text and paragraphs, bullets and numbering in MS Word 2010;
- work with styles, use and modify styles, create new custom styles, automatic heading numbers, automatic table of contents in MS Word 2010;
- number objects (pictures, tables), create the list of objects, cross references, index in MS Word 2010;
- create and edit various types of slides (texts, pictures, tables, charts, organisation charts, etc.), work with a slide master in MS PowerPoint 2010;
- use advanced techniques, slide transitions, animations, setting the delivery of a presentation, etc. in MS PowerPoint 2010;
Syllabus
  • The content of the course:
  • 1. The working environment of the MS Office 2010 applications, especially differences against the previous versions 2007 and 2003. General settings of the application MS Word 2010
  • 2. MS Word – basic techniques of work, direct formatting, formatting of text and paragraphs, bullets and numbering, page setup, document printing.
  • 3. MS Word – inserting the supplementary text elements – footnotes and endnotes, hyperlinks, text boxes.
  • 4. MS Word Spellchecker – simple fields (page number, date and time), symbols. Spelling and grammar, hyphenation, AutoCorrect options.
  • 5. MS Word – inserting and modification of graphic objects – pictures from Clip Art and from saved files, transfer of images from websites, inserting drawn shapes and elements of WordArt, watermark, equations.
  • 6. MS Word – drawing and editing tables, conversion of text into table, collaboration with MS Excel (transfer of an Excel spread sheet or chart into Word and vice versa).
  • 7. MS Word – working with styles – use and modification of defined styles, creation of new custom styles, automatic heading numbers, automatic table of contents.
  • 8. MS Word – object numberings (pictures, tables), list of objects, cross reference, index.
  • 9. MS PowerPoint –the application basics, creating and editing of various types of slides (texts, pictures, tables, charts, organisation charts, etc.), working with a slide master.
  • 10. MS PowerPoint - creating and editing of graphs (in cooperation with Excel), various types of graphs, more complexed graphs (graphs with two axis, data analysis etc.)
  • 11. MS PowerPoint – more advanced techniques, slide transitions, animations, setting the delivery of a presentation, etc.
  • 12. A practical exercise in MS Word and MS Excel.

Teaching methods
Fulltime study is taught by controlled seminars. Students work under the guidance of a teacher. Combined study is held by distance form using prepared DSO. Minimal required attendance for fulltime students is 75 %. Required attendance for non fulltime students is 50 %. Students with ISP have the same duties, however they need not to keep the required attendance.
Assessment methods
Fulltime study: students create a presentation in MS PowerPoint 2010 and write the credit test from MS Word 2010; a student must reach at least 50 % of max. points; Combined study: students create a presentation in MS PowerPoint 2010 and write the credit test from MS Word 2010; a student must reach at least 50 % of max. points;
