- The aim of the course is to discuss the development and current state of scientific knowledge in the area of management and regulation of financial institutions in conditions of advanced market economy. The course focuses on the position and importance of financial institutions in the current market system and on the specifics of management, regulation and supervision of financial institutions in conditions in the EU and Czech Republic. Furthermore, criteria, methods and decision-making techniques are discussed, both from the point of view of the institutions themselves and their regulation and supervision. The course also focuses on mastering academic writing and working with literature. Syllabus of the course: 1. Definition of the category "financial institution". Classification of financial institutions. Typology of financial institutions. 2. The position and importance of financial institutions in the current market system. 3. Theory and management of financial institutions, specifics of large and small institutions. 4. New challenges of contemporary development, globalization, financial innovation, increase in market uncertainty and volatility, planning the level of held capital, risk management. 5. Regulation and legal adjustment of financial institution management. 6. New trends, contemporary regulatory issues, transposition of EC directives. National, regional and international initiatives, current discussions, new proposals. 7. Micro and macro-prudential analysis, strategies and behaviour of financial institutions. 8. Differences between micro and macro prudential approach, the importance of systematic risks, the impact of an economic crisis on risk management. 9. Procyclicality of the financial system. Definitions, current discussions in international forums, proposals and tools to mitigate it. 10. Impact of a deteriorated economic environment on banks, which - in order to maintain the required solvency - reduce lending in the economy, thus further affecting the economic performance and retroactively facing its consequences, for example in the form of a further increase in non-performing loans. 11. Research studies on management and regulation of financial institutions. 12. Discussion of topics of final seminar papers.
