The objective of the course is to improve language competencies of students, fix their grammar and extend their vocabulary. The stress is laid on the work with professional text, its interpretation and processing of the content into spoken or written output.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- read and comprehend a professional text of the studied course /an artistic text in Czech;
- to get oriented in terminology of the given course and to deduce a meaning of unknown words and word expressions;
- to interprete the contents of a professional/artistic text;
- to process the received information into the form of a presentation,
- to express themselves correctly from the grammatic and orthographic point of view,
- to select adequate language tools when expressing themselves.

Course objectives
The objective of the course is to strengthen active speech competencies, mainly writing. Based on reading professional/artistic texts students interpret their contents and form their own thoughts which they express in the written form. They learn how to critically assess the individual types of texts, to compare them and deduce their own opinions. They present results of their work during the lessons. Students are guided to express themselves appropriately from the grammatic as well as orthographic point of view.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- read and comprehend a professional text of the studied course /an artistic text in Czech;
- get oriented in terminology of the given course and to deduce a meaning of unknown words and word expressions;
- interprete and critically assess the contents of a professional/artistic text;
- process the received information into the form of a written output and presentation,
- express themselves correctly from the grammatic and orthographic point of view,
- distinguish the individual style classes of Czech and select adequate language tools when expressing themselves.
Syllabus
  • Each seminar consists of two parts – a professional and a language part:
    - the professional part includes working with a specializad (or artistic) text based on the given study programme, it focuses on text comprehension, its assessment and its following processing into the form of a written output
    - the language part is focused on correct professional expressing from the grammatical, as well as orthographic point of view.

Assessment methods
FULL-TIME STUDY 1 OBLIGATORY PARTICIPATION IN LESSONS The extent of obligatory participation in lessons has been stipulated as follows: 75% applies to full-time students. The subject is assessed based on the student's results in the Credit Test. It testifies to the fulfilment of study obligations. 2 CREDIT TEST Reaching the result of minimum 70 points out of 100 points (maximum) is the precondition to gain the credit. The student is entitled to one regular attempt and he/she can do two resits to pass the Credit Test with the lecturer assigned to him. Note: The students who will be convicted of fundamental violation of the Study and Examination Code while writing the Credit Test (namely the forbidden use of mobile phones, spy pen cameras etc.) will automatically get the assessment “---“ (i.e. failed). 3 INSUFFICIENT ATTENDANCE In case of insufficient attendance between 50-40%, the assessment “-“ will be entered into the IS and the person concerned automatically loses one attempt to sit the test. The seminar attendance less than 40 % means that the student didn't meet the minimum required study obligations and he/she will be assessed as failed “---". In such a case the student will have to transfer the subject into the following term/academic year, and following the purchase of the necessary credits he/she will have again three attempts to pass the subject (to write the test). 4 STUDENTS WITH INDIVIDUAL STUDY PLAN The students with the approved Individual Study Plan (ISP) are obliged to get in touch with their lecturer in three weeks’ time at the very latest since the beginning of the term in order to agree alternative ways to fulfil their study obligations due to optional attendance. In case the student verifiably neglects this obligation, he/she will be assessed as failed and the code of “---“ will be entered into the IS. The students who were given the status of ISP on the course of the running term are obliged to contact their assigned lecturer in 14 days at the very latest. Short presentation in Czech on any topic.

Course objectives (in Czech)
Cílem předmětu je posílení aktivní řečové kompetence, a to psaní. Student na základě čtení odborných/uměleckých textů interpretuje jejich obsah a formuluje vlastní myšlenky, které vyjadřuje písemně. Učí se kriticky hodnotit jednotlivé typy textů, porovnávat je a vyvozovat svůj názor. Výsledky své práce prezentuje v rámci výuky. Je veden ke vhodnému vyjadřování, snaží se o gramaticky a pravopisně správný projev.

Na konci tohoto kurzu je student schopen: číst s porozuměním odborný text studovaného oboru/umělecký text v češtině; orientovat se v terminologii svého oboru a odvodit význam neznámých slov a slovních spojení; interpretovat a kriticky hodnotit obsah odborného/uměleckého textu; zpracovat získané informace do podoby písemného výstupu a prezentace; vyjadřovat se písemně gramaticky a pravopisně správně; rozlišit stylové vrstvy češtiny a při vyjadřování volit přiměřené jazykové prostředky.

  • Každé cvičení se skládá ze dvou částí, odborné a jazykové.
    - odborná část zahrnuje práci s odborným (případně uměleckým) textem zaměřeným na studijní obor, je orientována na porozumění textu, jeho zhodnocení a následné zpracování do podoby písemného výstupu
    - jazyková část je zaměřena na správnost odborného vyjadřování, a to jak z hlediska gramatického, tak pravopisného

FULL-TIME STUDY 1 OBLIGATORY PARTICIPATION IN LESSONS The extent of obligatory participation in lessons has been stipulated as follows: 75% applies to full-time students. The subject is assessed based on the student's results in the Credit Test. It testifies to the fulfilment of study obligations. 2 CREDIT TEST Reaching the result of minimum 70 points out of 100 points (maximum) is the precondition to gain the credit. The student is entitled to one regular attempt and he/she can do two resits to pass the Credit Test with the lecturer assigned to him. Note: The students who will be convicted of fundamental violation of the Study and Examination Code while writing the Credit Test (namely the forbidden use of mobile phones, spy pen cameras etc.) will automatically get the assessment “---“ (i.e. failed). 3 INSUFFICIENT ATTENDANCE In case of insufficient attendance between 50-40%, the assessment “-“ will be entered into the IS and the person concerned automatically loses one attempt to sit the test. The seminar attendance less than 40 % means that the student didn't meet the minimum required study obligations and he/she will be assessed as failed “---". In such a case the student will have to transfer the subject into the following term/academic year, and following the purchase of the necessary credits he/she will have again three attempts to pass the subject (to write the test). 4 STUDENTS WITH INDIVIDUAL STUDY PLAN The students with the approved Individual Study Plan (ISP) are obliged to get in touch with their lecturer in three weeks’ time at the very latest since the beginning of the term in order to agree alternative ways to fulfil their study obligations due to optional attendance. The objective of the course is to improve language competencies of students, fix their grammar and extend their vocabulary. The stress is laid on the work with professional text, its interpretation and processing of the content into spoken or written output.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- read and comprehend a professional text of the studied course /an artistic text in Czech;
- to get oriented in terminology of the given course and to deduce a meaning of unknown words and word expressions;
- to interprete the contents of a professional/artistic text;
- to process the received information into the form of a presentation,
- to express themselves correctly from the grammatic and orthographic point of view,
- to select adequate language tools when expressing themselves.
