- Course objectives
- At the end of this course the student will be able to understand and explain ... subject, methods and social functions of sociology, sociological paradigms, history of sociological thought and contemporary sociological theory. Questions will be discussed in the light of social relations policy of multiculturalism, minority status and role in society and the formation of collective identities. Bring the issue of social structure and clarify the main approaches differentiation. Recent findings from the area of sociology of organization, preparation of quantitative social research, evaluation and final report.
- Learning outcomes
- Basic theoretical knowledge, orientation in problems and context of monitored topics. At the same time, the practical skills and skills of applying the acquired knowledge in a real environment of professional activities. The learning outcomes are the support and development of the profile of the educated practitioner.

- Syllabus 1. Subject, social functions of sociology, methods and basic paradigms 2. Social conditions of sociology formation, A. Comte and other founders of sociology 3. Main historical stages of sociology development 4. Theory of social stratification, social status, social mobility 5. Social structure and other sociological theories (class theory of K.Marx and M. Weber, economic class status, theory of social space - P. Bourdieu) 6. Basic data on social structure development in the CR after 1990 7. Organizational processes in society, types of organizations, organizational principles in organization management 8. Sociological knowledge, social phenomenon, social problem as subject of research 9. Research techniques, basic and selected sampling, techniques of empirical data collection 10. Processing empirical data, drawing up a final report 11. Qualitative research 12. Revision and preparation for the exam, evaluation of credit tasks

- Teaching methods
- Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
- Assessment methods
- Course B_SOC_C is completed by a credit and examination: Credit will be awarded for a course paper 6 - 8 pages long designed as a proposal of sociological survey using questionnaire as main survey instrument. The paper will be submitted in electronic form. Full time students will present their project at seminars. To obtain a credit, 50% attendance of seminars is required for part-time students, 75% for full-time students. Examination will have a form of written test and discussion. The topics for the examination will be announced in the Student Information System. Student can sign up for the examination only after obtaining the credit.
