Cíle předmětu
This course is designed to teach students the skills necessary for effective academic writing. Students are encouraged to think critically so that their writing will reflect their abilities to isolate crucial issues, reason logically, and analyze problems effectively. The course will also address audience analysis and research strategies.
Výstupy z učení
Upon the successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
1.Develop an effective thesis statement for an essay;
2.Construct interesting informative and persuasive essays based on a thesis and supported by evidence;
3.Analyze the writing of others in order to craft a strong response;
4.Formulate thoughtful and stylistically correct sentences, paragraphs, introductions, and conclusions;
5.Evaluate sources of information in various media;
6.Integrate information from sources into an essay, using appropriate documentation;
7.Adapt your prose to specific audiences and purposes.

  • 3-4 Structuring an academic paragraph
  • 5-6 Parts of an academic paragraph, academic vocabulary, writing workshop
  • 7-8 Paraphrasing, sentence structure, peer review DUE: Paragraph – general topic
  • 9-10 Summarizing, scholastic honesty, avoiding plagiarism

  • 13-14 From paragraph to essay, essay types – focus on AE, thesis statement, planning an essay DUE: Academic paragraph (major-related)

Výukové metody
Seminars in both types of study (full-time students and part-time students). The explanation of new concepts will be immediately followed by practical exercises - individual work, cooperative learning (work in pairs or groups). Home preparation (reading and writing assignments and evaluation) are an integral part of the course. Special focus will be given to the evaluation of students' progress.
