The conference presentation examines the motif of the back view as a specific interpretive interface in the visual representation of culturally significant places on Instagram. Using public Instagram posts related to Via Transilvanica, a long-distance route in Romania, the paper analyses how this visual format connects physical experience, digital self-presentation, partial anonymity, and community-based visual norms. The back view allows the visitor to remain visibly present in the landscape while withholding the face, creating a visual balance between visibility, privacy, and viewer projection. Methodologically, the study applies visual netnography and a two-stage coding procedure: first identifying formal features of the images, and then interpreting them through the categories of performativity, authenticity, identity/anonymity, and sharing purpose. The presentation argues that visual representations of place are not produced solely by individual users, but are co-shaped by platform logic, repeated visual templates, and community expectations. The contribution lies in showing how digital identity, visual authenticity, and physical-digital space are mutually constituted in contemporary platform-based representations of visitor experience.
