The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the geographical, demographic and regional contexts of crime in the Czech Republic. The aim is also to introduce students to issues of the environment and its influence on the perception of safety, security urbanism, crime in the urban environment.
Learning outcomes
The student will get a general overview of demographic contexts and regional differentiation of crime in the Czech Republic. He will be able to identify and deal with issues of the environment and its influence on the perception of safety, security urbanism, crime in the urban environment.
Syllabus
1. Basic terms, used definitions. 2. Legal concept and sociological concept of crimes. 3. Geography, demography and regional development and crime. 4. Geography of small-scale crime (large regions, e.g. the territory of entire states). 5. Geography of large-scale crime (e.g. in municipalities, city districts, city centers). 6. Crime spillover effect (spillover effect). 7. Geography of crimes. 8. Geography of offenders. 9. The geography of fear of crime. Fear of crime and space. 10. Regional differentiation of crime. 11. Current developments and trends in the regions of the Czech Republic. 12. Problematic regions from the point of view of crime.

-'elaboration of the chapter of the strategic plan of the municipality, city - Security and crime.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit. Credit attests the accomplishment of the study obligations. To receive a credit is based on the written test where the students have to receive at least 60% of the points. The student prepares a draft of the chapter of the strategic plan of the municipality, city - Security and crime (in the range of 2-5 pages of text including appendices).
