The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Course Objective: To provide students with a general orientation in   issues of multiple types of financial investments (bonds, equities, commodities, derivatives, currencies)   with an emphasis on practical application in   the current market environment. At the end of the course the student will be able to explain the procedure for issuance of bonds and shares, describe developments in the markets needed info with     bonds in the U.S., the Eurozone and the Czech Republic, to describe the role of rating agencies and explain the importance of rating. Students will be able to point to examples of developments in global equity markets, characterize major commodities and their price developments - such as oil, gold and wheat, to explain the nature of forward contracts and options and show their use in hedging against risk, relationship with the evolution of the exchange rate and interest rates. The course is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of   functioning of financial markets, including practical examples and applications. The acquired knowledge will enable students to understand the characteristics of the main financial instruments and trading with them  .

  • 3. Rating and its effect on bond price
  • 4. Bonds and shares
  • 5. Shares - relationship among nominal, book and market value
  • 6. Price developments in equity markets
  • 7. The main commodities (oil, gold, wheat) and their price developments
  • 8. Forward contracts and their practical use
  • 9. Options and and their practical use
  • 10. Trading derivatives  
  • 11. The relationship between exchange rates and interest rates
  • 12. Development of selected exchange rates - CZK / USD and CZK / EUR, USD / EUR
Teaching methods
Teaching takes the form / lectures / seminars / workshops / full-time study / group consultations and managed in the form of study. Minimum mandatory attendance at seminars / workshops in full-time studies is 75%, the controlled group consultations in combined form 50%. Students who fail to meet the mandatory level of participation may be given during the semester additional study obligations (to the extent that will demonstrate academic achievement and acquired competencies necessary for successful completion of course). Instruction with practical applications and models online obtaining market information from the Internet.
Assessment methods
Provision of credit is sufficient participation in the course and passing the final test. Questions are in closed form   s ~ possible answers a), b), c), d) - just one answer is correct.
