Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to understand and explain the basic concepts and elements of European law. The students will have to clarify the practical relevance of EU law. They will also analyze the practical relevance of the case law issued by the Court of Justice of the EU, the European Court of Human Rights and national courts. Students will further gain an overview over the current debate on the future direction of European integration.
Syllabus
  • 1. Historical development of European integration - milestones of the EC, formation od EU 1992, EU after Lisbon Treaty 2007 2,EU law - legislative procedures 3. Specifics of EU law (application principles),EU law and national laws - relationship 4. Judicial protection of the EU law ( jurisdicton of EU courts, Actions and types of proceedings before EU courts ) 5. Sources of the EU law (primary and secondary law, internatonal treaties, case law and soft law 6.- 7. Main EU institutions (EU Council, European Council, Commission, European Parliament) 8.- 9. The EU internal market (free movement of goods, persons and services 10 Competition law - rules for undertakings and rules for States 11. Competition r¨law - rules for states (State aid, State monopolies) 12. Common commercial policy of the EU

Teaching methods
Theoretical lectures and practical exercises with ppt presentations. At seminars the obligatory minimum attendance required is 75 %.
Assessment methods
Course ends by graded assessment and written exam. a)Criteria for awarding of grading asessment is - minimum attendance on seminards (may be compensated by writen seminar workk that will be classified) and - wirtten knowledge test (12 closed questions) b) exam test composed of 30 closed questions per 2 pts for correct answer 1 pt for incomplete answer. Minimum is obtaining 35 pts; if student obtains 20 - 34 pts, the result may be compensated by oral exam (3 partial questions)
