Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The student gets an overview of UNIX operating systems and about its environment. The basic principles, philosophy and programming tools of UNIX is covered. The acquired knowledge is verified by hands-on work with a Linux distribution.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will:
- have an overview of UNIX operating systems
- understand the basic principles and philosophy of UNIX systems
- be able to work with basic programs in UNIX-like systems
Syllabus
  • Syllabus:
  • History, philosophy and architecture of UNIX
  • Familiarization with the desktop environment (KDE, Gnome)
  • Introduction to console
  • Input and output redirection
  • File system
  • Working with shell and text processing. Regular expressions.
  • Sort and find commands
  • Commands for system administration
  • Text editors
  • Creating custom scripts (programs)
  • Administration and configuration of OS
  • Repetition of key passages, conclusion
