Course objectives
The course reflects the role of new media technologies and platforms in shaping contemporary visual culture. It familiarizes students with the ways in which digital tools, social media, the internet, and other new technologies have influenced the creation, distribution, consumption, and interpretation of visual content. It develops critical thinking about the mechanisms that shape our perception of the world.
Learning outcomes
Graduates of the course will gain comprehensive knowledge about the role of new media in visual culture and the ways in which artistic practices, cultural production, and communication are changing. They will develop critical and analytical thinking skills as well as practical abilities that will enable them to navigate and contribute to this rapidly evolving field.

• What are new media? Archaeology of new media • New media as a means of constructing reality • Image appropriation: migration of forms as a universal strategy • Culture of spectacle: from avant-garde to performance • Internet, cyberculture, post-internet aesthetics • Moving image • Photography as narrative and fiction • Global visuality, commodification of new media • The world of new media and cultural criticism: representation, activism, and marginalization of minorities • Archive of digital culture: obsession with images • New media as a tool of power and social change • Turn to the image: visuality as the basis of perceiving the present; the phenomenon of "the gaze"
