- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- At the end of this course the student will be able to understand and explain the actual issues concerning the definition and delimitation of competences of the EU and Member States. They will be able to orientate in the functioning of the European judiciary, the meaning of the basic market freedoms in light of the recent case law of the Court of Justice of the EU, and not least in matters of the protection of fundamental rights in the EU in the field of tension between the systems of the Council of Europe, EU law and national law.

- 1. The competences of the EU and its member states 2. The principle of subsidiarity and the principle of subsidiarity control 3. The loyalty of EU Member States 4. The role of basic market freedoms within the EU internal market 5. Development CJEU case law regarding the free movement of goods 6. Free movement of persons and EU citizenship 7. Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of nationality 8. Current Development of the "Social Union" 9. Actual dimension of EU anti-discrimination law 10. The concept of a European system for the protection of fundamental rights 11. The relation between the EU Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights 12. The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU

- Teaching methods
- Theoretical lectures and practical exercises. Students solve independently and working groups fictitious cases. Method inspired moot-court. Powerpoint presentation.

- Final written test - credit. Successful completion of the course is subject to 60% correct answers.
