Course objectives
The objective of the course Modern Banking is to provide the students with a comprehensive and systematic view on banking business. Teaching builds on the knowledge and understanding of the Bachelor study. Student is able to explain the subject in more detail the issues from the area of ​​both commercial and investment banking. The practice can analyze client needs to invest temporarily available foaming means to assess creditworthiness client and find mutually opitmální option for implementing payment needs. Student also understands banking organizations not only in CR, but also in the world, focusing on selected EU countries.

  • 1. Crucial knowledge of the subject Banking 1 - repetition and comparison of the level of students' knowledge of other Bachelor study fields with the field of Banking VSFS. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 2. Bank as a business entity, the business environment of financial institutions in the Czech Republic. Regulation for banks in their business. Strategic management and bank business planning. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 3. Organizational structure of banking groups, its historical development in the example of the Czech Republic. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 4. Classification of bank products. Products´ interest. Deposit and loan products. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 5. Organization and payments instruments. Characteristics of payments and its forms. Revenues and costs. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 6. Deposit products. Deposit insurance, its function and meaning. Revenues and costs. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 7. Loan products. Credit risk management. Loans providing, bank guarantees, bills of exchange and utilization. Revenues and costs. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 8. Mortgage loan and building savings, products base, changes in building savings. 9. Claims management, claims according to the rules of the Czech National Bank, claims recovery and their sale. 10. Alternative forms of corporate financing. Characteristics of alternative forms of financing and its significance. Factoring base and its importance for the corporate financing. Right and false factoring. Course of factoring case. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 11. Investment banking and services for bank investors. Basic types of banks´ investment business. Investment instruments - securities and their properties. Revenues and costs. Repetition and application of knowledge in exercises. 12. Electronic banking, base and importance, credit test.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit and verbal exam. To obtain the credit to be fulfilled: Full-time study: running credit test (60% points min), preparation of presentations on the topic addressed by teacher and presentation within the exercises (40% points min), active participation in exercises during the AR (academic year), test that can be done verbally or in written form. Combined form of study: credit test (60% points min), working-out replying to questions from the methodology sheets (mainstays) - (40% points min). For both forms of study: Answer 2 of the 60 topic questions correctly is required to pass the exam.
