Abstract
The paper deals with the issue of engagement in social sciences . Although we face in the present time many serious problems pu blic social sciences do not to pay them, from our point of view, appropriat e attention. Even when some probl ems are reflected by theory, t he reflection does not sufficiently affect real life or the reflection repres ents only sporadic attempts. The paper brings examples of the C zech scientific paper that are engaged, it means they try to analyze the seriou s problems in time of publishing the paper. Further we shortly discuss Czech and foreign books trying complexl y analyze development of the w orld in the latest fifty years. Based on this we will outline w hat an engaged and comprehensive concept of the presence should include. We wi ll also suggest some recommendations which would enable to stre ngthen the engagement element in soci al sciences - without being at th e expense of the theory, but on the contrary – to emphasize one of the basic functions of science which is t o identify assumptions of validi ty of scientific fundamental statements.
