The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course provides students with basic information on the development and functioning of the European Union. Attention is focused on the tasks, responsibilities and structure of institutions, including forms of decision-making processes. After its completion, the student should be able to use the acquired knowledge, especially in   regional management in administrative practice. The aim is also that the student is able to objectively respond to the actual problems of the Union in terms of both national as well as in terms of European law.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to solve tasks at decision-making level within the EU institutions. The student will be able to use the acquired knowledge especially in the area of regional administration in administrative practice.

  • 1. European integration and its development 2. Institutional and legal development of the European Union.
  • 3. European Union institutions and their place in contemporary European administration.
  • 4. Characteristic features of the performance of contemporary European public administration.
  • 5. Benefits of applying the principles of New Public Management.
  • 6. Systems and models of public service in European Union countries.
  • 7. Civil service systems in Member States of the European Union.
  • 8. Characteristic features of European territorial governments.
  • 9. Ensuring development at the performance of local and regional self-government.
  • 10. Common and the local politics of the European Union and the ways of their implementation.
  • 11. European administrative space.
  • 12th Relationship Czech Republic and the European Union. The future of European integration.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
Assessment methods
The course is completed with a credit and verbal exam. A 12 written test questions (8 points min) is required to award the credit. Answer two of the 24 topic questions correctly is required to pass the exam.“
