- Course objectives
- At the end of this course the student will be able to understand and explain the forms of international financial markets, operators acting on the international financial markets, the role of international financial intermediaries, the main financial instruments used in international financial markets. Furthermore, the basic mechanism of functioning of international financial markets, financial instruments valuation principles and bases of international regulation of financial markets.
- Syllabus
- Outline (for full-time study) First Lecture: General introduction. Model of a financial market. Defining subjects of international financial markets. Recapitulation of basic microeconomics theory on working of the market mechanism. Distinction of national and international markets. Forms of international financial markets. The main financial instruments used on international financial markets. Second Lecture: Foreign exchange market. The structure of the foreign exchange market. Market makers and the clients on the foreign exchange markets. Mechanism of foreign exchange markets. Spot and forward contracts on the foreign exchange market. Methods of quotation. Third Lecture: Cross exchange rate. Monetary systems. Exchange rate regimes (fixed rate vs.. floating exchange rate regimes). The process of adopting the euro. Balance of payments. The structure of the balance of payments. Partial balance and cumulative balance of payments. 4th Lecture: International money markets. Characteristics and structure of the international money market. International money market instruments. Players in the market of international money market instruments. Euromoney markets. Euro. Reference interest rate. 5th Lecture: International debt securities´ markets. Segments of debt securities markets. Instruments traded on the international bond markets. Eurobonds. Innovation on the debt securities markets. 6th Lecture: International financial derivatives market, its structure,function and significance. Types of financial derivatives (forwards, swaps, options and futures). Exchange and OTC futures´markets.

- Teaching methods
- Teaching takes the form of lectures,seminars and workshops in full-time study and / controlled group consultations in the combined form of study. Minimum mandatory attendance at seminars / workshops in full-time studies is 75%, the controlled group consultations in combined form 50%. Students who fail to meet the mandatory level of participation may be given during the semester additional study obligations (to the extent that should demonstrate academic achievement and acquired competencies necessary for successful completion of course).
