- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- Course is designed to provide students with basic knowledge from the area of theory of state, constitutional development in the territory of today's Czech Republicand the valid constitutional law of the Czech Republic. In the field of theory of state, students will be able to explain the content of basic concepts, relationships between power, including a comparison of constitutional institutions and patterns of how constitutional law in selected European countries and the USA. Students will also be able to characterize the most important documents and events of constitutional development in the territory of today's Czech Republic and explain the content of some important concepts of a valid constitutional law of the Czech Republic.
- Learning outcomes
- Student should be able:
- explain the concept of state and describe particular atributes of the concept
- describe a structure of the Connstitution of the Czech Republic
- describe a position of the President of republic and the Government of the Czech republic in the system of public power
- describe a legislative proces
- explain the concept of right to a fair trial and enumerate particular rigts following from this right
- distinguish types of human rights under the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms - Syllabus
- 1) The concept of state and its basic features
- 2) State governed by law, forms of state, political systems and regimes
- 3) Constitutionalism: function and types of constitutions, constitutional development on territory of current Czech republic 1848-1993
- 4) Constitutional order of Czech republic, structure of constitutution of Czech republic

- 6) Legislative power: function and structure of Parliament of Czech republic, legislative procedure

- Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study; compulsory seminar participation is 75% in full-time study, compulsory tutorial participation is 50% in part-time study.
- Assessment methods
- The course is completed with a credit and verbal exam. Credit is granted in full-time study for active participation in seminars (presentations, engage in discussion) and in part-time study for handling the essay on the topic agreed with the teacher. Credit could be grantedy also on the basis of passing of an interacive test.
