Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
After completing the course the student will be able to use the basic terms of mathematical statistics. Because the mathematical statistics is the science discipline, which directly requires specific knowledge level from the theory of probability, short repetition of the theory of probability will precede of this theme at first. On the basis of this course the student will be able to understand the problems of point and interval estimation. He will know the properties of point estimation of parameters of the parametric distributions and he will be able to construct confidence intervals for the basic parameters of the selected probability distribution. On the basis of this course, the students will be able to test hypotheses about the values of some parameters of parametric distributions. They will understand the basic terms of statistical hypothesis testing. Students will be also able to use the equality tests of parameters in several sets, both in the case of independent samples and also in the case of dependent samples. Listeners will understand the problems of non-parametric testing with emphasis on goodness of fit tests and chi-square test of homogenity.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge of the basics of mathematical statistics (point and interval estimation, testing of statistical hypotheses, tests of good fit) and introduction to the analysis of dependencies.

Teaching methods
Lectures and seminars in full-time study; tutorials in part-time study, data-projector is used in teaching, statistical programme Statgraphics will be presented to the students. Minimum mandatory attendance at seminars in full-time is 75%, the controlled group consultations in combined studies 50%. Students who fail to meet the mandatory level of participation will be specified additional study obligations.
Knowledge obtained within the course "Probability and statistics B - B_PS_B" on the bachelor level of the studium and the knowledge within the higher education mathematics are a prerequisite of mastering the content of the course.
Assessment methods
Course ending: allowance + examination Requirements for allowance: - 2 written tests, it is needed to obtain at least 50 percent of points from each test - 1 semestral work from the area of descriptive statistics, it is needed to obtain at least 50 percent points from that - presence in seminars at least 80 percent Examination: - 1 written test (exercises + theory), it is needed to obtain at least 50 percent of points form that - verbal examination
