Cíle předmětu
Defending of commercial and public interests at national and EU level.
• Students will be able to understand and explain the general definitions such as lobbying, advocacy, public relations, fundraising, they will be able to set up strategy, prepare stakeholder mapping and have overview how EU is working. They will understand difference between EU and US regarding lobbying.
• Pillars of the subject are following: basic definitions, national and EU structures functioning, EU law and lobbyists´ strategies. Special attention will be given to the business lobbying towards the EU and public institutions.
• Preparations of position documents, strategies and deep analysis of a concrete case.

Výukové metody
PS: (Present students) 2 hours per week (2/0); KS: (Combined students) 6 hours lectures. Lectures for present studies will be split into theoretical as well as practical part with examples from the ground.
Theoretical parts will be always explained on practical examples. Lectures will be of interactive form that requires a minimum of preparedness of students. It will also allows a good quality of lectures as students will be able to discuss on a given topics. This helps for better understanding of students, how the interests of different stakeholders, namely towards the EU institutions, can be defended. Even more interactive form of study is applied in KS.
Metody hodnocení
The course Lobbying will be completed by a credit („zápočet“) following successful completion of following major criteria: - 2/3 active participation during and between lectures based both on presence (discussing, doing exercises, pre-reading, interpreting, defending standpoints etc.) and written communication (homeworks, preparation for the next teaching block,...) - evidence based work in the project team(written project as per teachers instructions,project defense done after written test - see next, feedback by teammates) - short written test to prove basic knowledge in Lobbying on topics tackled within the course. Credit will be granted ONLY based on successful matching of ALL three criteria. The topics will especially be: Czech and EU legislative process, EU institutions, lobbying in the Czech Republic and the EU, principles of negotiation ("getting to yes"), business lobbying, strategies and tactics of lobbying, role of lobbying within business processes, tackling negative and positive aspects of lobbying (role of international cooperation, best practice). For more details see IS (course file). If these two criteria are not fulfilled for any reason (and also in case of ISP) the double size test will be applied to get the credit. The topics will especially be: Czech and EU legislative process, EU institutions, lobbying in the Czech Republic and the EU, principles of negotiation ("getting to yes"), business lobbying, strategies and tactics of lobbying, role of lobbying within business processes, tackling negative and positive aspects of lobbying (role of international cooperation, best practice). Pre-requisites in the language of instruction: General overview, willingness to learn, to think and to communicate. Active participation (min. 2/3) during and between the lectures and the commitment to team work are required.


The lecturer IVAN JUKL is the person with rich experience in institutional as well as business lobbying. He used to help Czech companies to do business successfully at the Scandinavian markets, he is former General Director of Czech Trade (govt agency supporting export) and these days he works in managerial position for Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Regarding the Lobbying course please do follow the texts uploaded in the IS as well as interesting tips for reading provided during lectures. Most of the materials provided to you in IS (course file) will be explained and discussed at the lectures.
