- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of UNIX-type operating systems and work in the environment of these systems. Students will get to know the basic principles and philosophy of UNIX and its software. They will verify their knowledge while working with a specific Linux OS distribution within the framework of team credit project.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course students will:
- have an overview of UNIX operating systems
- understand the basic principles and philosophy of UNIX systems
- be able to work with basic programs in UNIX-like systems - Syllabus
- 1. History, philosophy and architecture of UNIX
- 2. Familiarization with the desktop environment (KDE, Gnome)
- 3. Introduction to console
- 4. Input and output redirection
- 5. File system
- 6. Working with shell and text processing. Regular expressions.

- Teaching methods
- Teaching takes place in the form of exercises and lectures in a full-time form of study; concentration in the combined form of study;
Minimum compulsory participation in classes is not specified, but successful completion of the subject requires it to a sufficient extent. - Assessment methods
- The course is concluded with a credit in the form of a team credit project.
CREDIT is awarded in both forms (PS and KS) for a team project, which involves presenting practical knowledge/skills of 1 selected topic in a selected UNIX/LINUX OS distribution, by all team members (3 students). Topics will be listed in MS TEAMS.
The presentation will be recorded in MS Teams (7 - 15 minutes). It is not necessary to create a presentation in PPTX, a clear scenario is enough). A practical demonstration in a specific distribution is required.
ISP students - credit is awarded for a practical presentation of 2 selected topics, listed in MS Teams.
ISP and REPEATING students - agree with the teacher as soon as possible on the method of assessment. - Language of instruction

I RECOMMEND submitting a request for inclusion in a schedule (seminar) group to a specific teacher according to instructions from the study department.
