Prerequisites
N_StM_1 Statistic Methods 1
The requirement for the completion of this course is completion of the course N_StM_1.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
After completing the course the student will master the easy methods of dependence description. He will be able to work with contingency and correlation table, contingency coefficients, scatter plot, conditional means and conditional variances, by the determination ratio, correlation coefficient, the associaion coefficient and Spearman correlation coefficient. Student will be able to work with one from often used tests for dependence verify of two variables, namely of two categorical variables. Undergraduates will be able to use one of the classic statistical methods, which is one-way analysis of variance. Students will be able to understand the issues of regression and correlation analysis.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic terms used in the analysis of dependencies , chi-square test of independence.
  • 2. Conditional means and conditional variances, ANOVA.
  • 3. Introduction to regression and correlation analysis , regression models.
  • 4. Choice of regression function.
  • 5. Method of least squares.
  • 6. Regression line.
  • 7. Other types of regression functions.
  • 8. Dependence tightness.
  • 9. Multiple linear regression and correlation.
  • 10. Multiple nonlinear regression and correlation, multicollinearity.

Teaching methods
Classic, in addition to hand calculations, students will gradually familiarized with the use of statistical software Statgraphics through data projector during the semester. Minimum mandatory attendance at seminars in full-time is 75%, the controlled group consultations in combined studies 50%. Students who fail to meet the mandatory level of participation will be specified additional study obligations.
Assessment methods
Form of termination: Accreditation + exam. Requirements for credit: At least 80% attendance at seminars; 2 written tests, it is necessary to obtain at least 50% of the points in each test; 1 semester work, you must obtain at least 50 % of the points of the semester work. Examination Requirements: The exam covers subject matter from both the course "Statistical Methods 1" and the course "Statistical Methods 2". The exam consists of written and oral part: written part - 4 questions (each 5 points) + 2 exercises (each 10 points); it is needed to score at least 21 points for "E"; oral part - student pulls out and answer two theoretical questions.
