The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the basic concepts, principles, and functions of management in both historical and contemporary contexts. Students will acquire knowledge of the role of managers, managerial styles, and soft skills, as well as the principles of strategic planning, leadership, decision-making, and change management. Special emphasis is placed on corporate social responsibility, ESG, sustainability, and the readiness of management to implement renewable energy sources. The course also introduces students to modern approaches in the areas of innovation, digitalization, automation, robotization, and artificial intelligence, and fosters the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student will have the following professional knowledge and skills. The student will be able to:
Define the basic concepts and principles of management and understand their significance and historical development.
Identify key representatives and schools of managerial thought and compare their contributions to practice.
Critically assess the core management functions (planning, organizing, leading, motivating, decision-making, communication, and control) and apply them in model situations.
Characterize the manager’s personality, evaluate different managerial styles, and assess their appropriateness in various contexts.
Create a personal development plan in the areas of leadership, time management, and self-management.
Analyze the need for change management and crisis management, identify risks, and propose methods to address them.
Interpret the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR), ESG, and business ethics; evaluate the importance of sustainability and the use of renewable energy sources for organizational management.
Evaluate the significance of innovation, lean management, and risk management in relation to business competitiveness.
Gain an overview of the possibilities of using digitalization, automation, robotization, and artificial intelligence in management and assess their impact on management efficiency.
Develop teamwork, presentation, and argumentation skills through the preparation and defense of project assignments and case studies.

Teaching methods
Lectures will generally consist of two parts: a theoretical part – presentation of fundamental and advanced knowledge of management, including historical development, contemporary trends, and practical examples from business practice; and a practical part – work with case studies (e.g., change management, application of ESG and renewable energy sources, innovations in management).
Lectures may also include: continuous knowledge checks (e.g., short tests, quizzes, reflective questions), completion and interpretation of self-assessment questionnaires, discussions on selected topics, group work and brainstorming, as well as assignments for reflection and home preparation for exercises.
Exercises will focus on the practical application of acquired knowledge and the development of skills through solving case studies and simulations of managerial situations, teamwork, presentations and peer review, training in economic and critical thinking oriented towards entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation, development of soft skills (communication, self-management, leadership), working with topics from required literature and students’ own practice, and the use of modern digital tools and artificial intelligence (e.g., AI chatbots for solution design, simulation of decision-making processes).
Part-time study. Teaching takes the form of guided consultations that combine condensed presentations of key topics, prior self-study of literature and materials, and subsequent consultation with the lecturer, discussion, and sharing of experiences among students.
Assessment methods
Form of completion: credit and examination (6 ECTS).
Requirements for obtaining the credit:
Full-time study: minimum 75 % attendance at seminars and active participation in class (discussions, presentations, teamwork, solving case studies). The credit is awarded by the seminar instructor.
Part-time study: minimum 50 % attendance at classes and active participation in class. The credit is awarded by the lecturer.
Online teaching: Lectures will be streamed and recorded (MS Teams). Seminars may be streamed at the discretion of the instructor but will not be recorded. Personal attendance is preferred.
Requirements for the examination:
The course is completed with an oral examination. Admission to the exam is conditional upon: obtaining the credit recorded in the IS before the exam date, submission of the exam paper into the designated Assignment Submission folder in the IS: link here .
Content of the examination: a professional discussion of the proposals and recommendations presented in the exam paper, with emphasis on the student’s ability to critically analyze the problem and propose practically feasible solutions.
Special regime (ISP):
Students with an Individual Study Plan (ISP) who do not attend classes/seminars are required to continuously prepare reflection assignments (see link ) and upload them into the Assignment Submission (ISP Ongoing Tasks) before the exam date.

Late arrivals or early departures without an excuse to lectures, tutorials, and consultations will not be accepted.

If a student participates in classes or consultations online via MS Teams, it is expected that, upon the lecturer’s request, the camera and microphone will be turned on.

In the case of an individual study plan (ISP) and absence, students are required to prepare and upload substitute assignments for missed classes into IS/Assignment Submission.
