- Course objectives
- TThe aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental concepts, principles and functions of management in their historical development as well as in contemporary practice, and to develop the ability to apply these principles in a dynamic, uncertain and technologically evolving environment.
The course focuses on the role of the manager, managerial styles, soft skills and personality-related factors in relation to planning, organizing, leading people, decision-making, communication, control and change management. Special attention is paid to responsible management, ESG principles, sustainability, risk management and managerial readiness for the implementation of renewable energy sources.
The course also addresses the impact of innovation, digitalization, automation, robotics and artificial intelligence on managerial decision-making and organizational management, with an emphasis on long-term stability, organizational resilience and ethical responsibility.
- Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

Explain fundamental concepts, principles and functions of management, their significance, interrelations and historical development in the context of contemporary organizational management.

Identify and compare key schools and representatives of management thought and assess their relevance for current managerial practice.

Analyse and apply the core management functions (planning, organizing, leading, motivating, decision-making, communication and control) in model-based and practice-oriented situations.

Characterize managerial personality, distinguish managerial styles and evaluate their suitability with respect to situational factors, team characteristics, uncertainty and decision-making context.

Reflect on own managerial predispositions and design a basic personal development plan focused on leadership, time management, prioritization, energy management and self-management.

Identify and evaluate managerial risks related to change management, innovation, projects and crisis situations, and propose appropriate managerial approaches to their mitigation.

Explain and interpret the principles of corporate social responsibility, ESG and business ethics, and assess their importance for long-term organizational stability, reputation and sustainability.

Assess the role of management in the implementation of renewable energy sources and sustainable solutions, including related economic, technological, human and reputational risks.

Evaluate the significance of innovation, digitalization, automation, robotics and artificial intelligence for managerial decision-making and organizational effectiveness, including their limitations and risks.

Demonstrate the ability to work in teams, present arguments and communicate effectively through the preparation and defence of case studies, project assignments and practice-based managerial tasks.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures will generally consist of two parts: a theoretical part – presentation of fundamental and advanced knowledge of management, including historical development, contemporary trends, and practical examples from business practice; and a practical part – work with case studies (e.g., change management, application of ESG and renewable energy sources, innovations in management).
Lectures may also include: continuous knowledge checks (e.g., short tests, quizzes, reflective questions), completion and interpretation of self-assessment questionnaires, discussions on selected topics, group work and brainstorming, as well as assignments for reflection and home preparation for exercises.
Exercises will focus on the practical application of acquired knowledge and the development of skills through solving case studies and simulations of managerial situations, teamwork, presentations and peer review, training in economic and critical thinking oriented towards entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation, development of soft skills (communication, self-management, leadership), working with topics from required literature and students’ own practice, and the use of modern digital tools and artificial intelligence (e.g., AI chatbots for solution design, simulation of decision-making processes).
Part-time study. Teaching takes the form of guided consultations that combine condensed presentations of key topics, prior self-study of literature and materials, and subsequent consultation with the lecturer, discussion, and sharing of experiences among students. - Assessment methods
- Form of completion: credit and examination (6 ECTS).
Requirements for obtaining the credit:
Full-time study: minimum 75 % attendance at seminars and active participation in class (discussions, presentations, teamwork, solving case studies). The credit is awarded by the seminar instructor.
Part-time study: minimum 50 % attendance at classes and active participation in class. The credit is awarded by the lecturer.
Online teaching: Lectures will be streamed and recorded (MS Teams). Seminars may be streamed at the discretion of the instructor but will not be recorded. Personal attendance is preferred.
Requirements for the examination:
The course is completed with an oral examination. Admission to the exam is conditional upon: obtaining the credit recorded in the IS before the exam date, submission of the exam paper into the designated Assignment Submission folder in the IS: link here .
Content of the examination: a professional discussion of the proposals and recommendations presented in the exam paper, with emphasis on the student’s ability to critically analyze the problem and propose practically feasible solutions.
Special regime (ISP):
Students with an Individual Study Plan (ISP) who do not attend classes/seminars are required to continuously prepare reflection assignments (see link ) and upload them into the Assignment Submission (ISP Ongoing Tasks) before the exam date.

- Late arrivals or early departures without an excuse to lectures, tutorials, and consultations will not be accepted.
If a student participates in classes or consultations online via MS Teams, it is expected that, upon the lecturer’s request, the camera and microphone will be turned on.
In the case of an individual study plan (ISP) and absence, students are required to prepare and upload substitute assignments for missed classes into IS/Assignment Submission.
